Marissa Molina is a 14 year old girl who loves the game of softball and plays for the Diamond Devils 16U team as a catcher. Marissa was recently diagnosed with two kinds of cancer, Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her right leg and MFH - Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (a type of soft tissue cancer).
As a result of the diagnosis, Marissa has just recently started chemotherapy treatments and will then have the bone removed from her leg. She also has polycystic kidney disease, which is causing doctors to be extra cautious with the chemotherapy drugs. Marissa is a very sweet and generous young lady, as evidenced by her cutting off and donating her beautiful long black hair to Locks of Love. Marissa's dream is to once day become a psychiatrist.
At the end of November, the family was forced from the Gilbert, AZ home they were renting as a result of the economy. A few days later, Marissa was diagnosed with cancer.
“She is one special young lady and her family is precious. When I was asking what she wanted for Christmas she was humble, smiling and saying she needed nothing," said Tanya Kirkpatrick, a good friend of the Molina’s whose daughter plays softball with Marissa. "Her mom has not been able to work and they are down to one income, and with five kids things are extremely tight and stressful. As I pushed Marissa in the wheelchair for a walk outside today, she shared how worried she is about her family and her brothers and sisters not being able to have a Christmas, worried about her mom and dad and the stress of them having to move back home to Tucson and the loss of her moms income. I couldn't help but think what a gift it would be to help this family out financially so they could just love on their daughter and allow some stress to be lifted.”
Combine mom being out of work and caring for Marissa at Cardon Children’s Hospital, dad commuting back and forth from Tucson to work, and four other precious children to care for and it's easy to understand why this is a family we must help.
