Homeless Students and
Families In Transition (FIT)
Unfortunately we are witnessing the "New Poor," many families that were once economically secure in their recent past but as a result of the hard economic times have lost careers, homes, possessions and have depleted all savings and personal resources just to survive. There is one common goal however, keeping their children in school for they know the value of an education. Fans Across America™ started the Families in Transition and Homeless Students programs to assist a population that had needs that are not being met through Federal or other social programs. The Locker Room, established in 2011, acts as the intake, processing and distribution center for donations and families.
Fans provides basic daily living necessities to less fortunate infants through adults clothes, shoes, personal and dental hygiene items, household necessities, kitchen utensils, small appliances, school supplies and backpacks, school uniforms, and other basic items to provide the families a new start in life.
We believe our support and supplies; improve attendance with a decrease of truancy, allow children to maintain a sense of hygiene limiting schoolmate bullying and teasing, building self esteem and confidence.
All families and students assisted by Fans are by appointment and referred by School District personnel or related Arizona Social Service Agencies. The primary requirement for assistance from Fans is a child must be enrolled full time in a School District or a Youth on Their Own.
These families are Arizona residents and may be receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, low-income households, or have chronically ill or physically disabled children.
On any given day there are in excess of 225 Homeless Families in Transition and over 450 Homeless Students enrolled fulltime just in the Chandler Unified School District.
For the 2014 - 2015 school year FANS will assist over 600 Students and 160 Families in Transition by providing their basic daily living necessities.
"Fans Across America™ has been instrumental in assisting with the needs of homeless families in the Chandler Unified School District. "Fans Across America™ has been instrumental in helping the Tempe campus of Children First Academy with many needs. They have donated Holiday gifts, Backpacks full of supplies, sports equipment, clothing and any other basic household needs we have asked them to help us with. This organization is very aware of the special needs of our homeless and underprivileged children and their families in transition. We are very grateful to have this great organization behind us to help serve the homeless and underprivileged families of our community. We hope to be partners with them for many years to come.
